This Minnesota engagement session at Interstate State Park was the perfect morning for two people who feel most at home outdoors. Between the quiet hiking trails, scenic overlooks, and golden early summer light, every part of the session reflected who Kendall and Kaleb are as a couple.
If you ask them what they love doing together, the answer is simple: hiking, fishing, and exploring Minnesota. In fact, they’ve made it their goal to visit every Minnesota State Park together. When Kaleb proposed to Kendall at Gooseberry Falls State Park, it only made sense that their engagement photos would celebrate that same adventurous spirit.
We met early in the morning while everything was still quiet. One of my favorite things about morning engagement sessions is how peaceful they feel. The trails are calm, the light is soft, and you don’t have to dodge crowds while trying to enjoy the experience.
Interstate State Park is one of my favorite places for adventurous engagement sessions because it offers so much variety. Towering rock formations, wooded trails, overlooks of the St. Croix River, and beautiful pockets of light make it feel like you can explore somewhere new around every corner.
Instead of rushing from one photo spot to another, we took our time hiking through the park together.
It’s one of the biggest benefits of choosing a location that means something to you. Your engagement session starts feeling less like a photoshoot and more like spending a morning together.

Kendall and Kaleb never needed elaborate props or perfectly styled locations.
They simply enjoyed being together.
Whether they were walking the trails hand-in-hand, stopping to admire the views, or laughing together between photos, everything felt natural and relaxed. Those quiet in-between moments are always my favorite because they’re usually the ones couples remember most.
One of the reasons I encourage couples to choose locations connected to their hobbies is because it helps tell your story instead of someone else’s.
Their engagement session became another adventure they can add to the long list of parks they’ve explored together.

One of the best things about planning a Minnesota engagement session is that every park offers something a little different. Whether you’re hiking to an overlook, walking through pine forests, standing beside waterfalls, or taking in sweeping river views, Minnesota has no shortage of incredible locations.
Choosing a place that’s meaningful to your relationship makes your photos feel even more personal. Instead of simply posing in a beautiful location, you’re creating memories in a place you’ll want to visit again for years to come.

Later this year, these two will be celebrating with family and friends at their wedding in Stillwater. Knowing how much they enjoy spending time along the St. Croix River, Interstate State Park felt like the perfect bridge between this season of engagement and the next chapter they’ll soon begin together.
Engagement sessions are one of my favorite parts of the wedding experience because they give us a chance to get to know each other before the wedding day. By the time your wedding arrives, you’ll already know what it feels like to be in front of my camera, which means you can spend less time wondering what to do and more time soaking in every moment.

From peaceful hiking trails to breathtaking river overlooks, Kendall and Kaleb’s Minnesota engagement session was everything an outdoor-loving couple could hope for. It was relaxed, adventurous, and full of genuine moments that reflected exactly who they are together.
After I delivered their gallery, they sent me one of the sweetest messages: “We loved working with you for our engagement session. Thank you for such a great experience and we love the photos you sent over!”
Messages like that remind me why I love what I do.
If you’re planning your wedding and looking for a Minnesota engagement photographer who loves exploring scenic locations, I’d love to help you create an engagement session that feels like an adventure. Whether you’re dreaming of a Minnesota engagement session, a quiet lakeshore, or another meaningful place, let’s create photos that feel joyful, relaxed, and completely you.
