Amanda and Cole are fairly quiet by nature, but they know how to celebrate when the moment calls for it. They love good beer, fun parties, and spending time with family and friends. When I met them for their engagement session, I could already tell their wedding day would be laid-back yet full of meaningful moments.

One of my favorite memories from their day was the bride’s thoughtful surprise: not only did Amanda plan a private first look with Cole, but she also gifted him a boudoir album. His reaction? Priceless. That quiet, personal moment set such a sweet tone for the rest of their Ivy Black wedding — intimate, emotional, and entirely theirs.

The bridal suite at Ivy Black was buzzing with soft laughter as Amanda’s bridesmaids in mint and pastel pink got ready. Amanda wore a simple sleeveless gown that perfectly matched the understated elegance of the day. Her choice of colors reflected spring itself: soft, fresh, and happy, blending beautifully with the floral arrangements and the natural light streaming in through the windows.

The ceremony itself was heartwarming and playful. Amanda and Cole incorporated a unity candle to symbolize their joining together, though the spring wind had other ideas — repeatedly blowing the flame out. Rather than being a disruption, it added a whimsical touch and lots of laughter, perfectly reflecting the couple’s laid-back nature.
Another personal touch: their mountain-shaped wedding arch. It felt uniquely them, tying together the love of their region, their personalities, and the aesthetic of their spring wedding. These small, intentional details gave the day its unmistakable charm.
After the ceremony, the reception was filled with laughter, heartfelt toasts, and the kind of Minnesotan joy that comes naturally when friends and family gather to celebrate. Amanda and Cole added a playful fake-exit while their grandparents were still at the reception, sparklers in hand, giving everyone a moment of surprise and delight.
The mix of mint and pastel pink continued through table decor and florals, keeping everything feeling light, spring-inspired, and cohesive without feeling forced.

One of my favorite contributions to their day was suggesting we capture silhouette photos during sunset. The warm glow behind Amanda and Cole, paired with the soft, spring light, created some truly stunning imagery that feels timeless. Moments like these are what I love most about photographing weddings — capturing light, love, and personality all at once.

From the quiet first look and boudoir surprise to the playful fake-exit, Amanda and Cole’s wedding was joyful, relaxed, and distinctly spring. The pastel colors, mountain arch, unity candle mishaps, and playful personalities made this day feel authentically them — a celebration that was both laid-back and full of intentional, emotional moments.
For couples planning their own weddings, it’s a great reminder that meaningful details, personal surprises, and intentional timeline planning can make your day feel effortless while still producing stunning photos.
